In our third viewing space, Melanie’s Office, 57W57Arts presents works by multimedia artist Letitia Quesenberry and photographer Rolf Siegenthaler. Quesenberry will show pieces from three ongoing series that offer discrete observations of space, color, and light. “The Union of Opposites” consists of three-dimensional drawings in plaster and latex paint. “Hyperspace” is a series of kinetic light boxes utilizing layered shapes and LEDs. Work from the artist’s latest series, “How This Came To Be”, consists of small vibrant works made of heavily pigmented spray paint, glitter and resin. Siegenthaler’s photographs depict the interiors of Switzerland’s Kegelbahn (or bowling alleys), many of which have been shuttered due to the sports waning popularity over the years. Editors Fabienne Eggelhöfer and Monica Lutz included Siegenthaler’s photographs in their 2008 book Gut Holz, Kegelbahnen in der Schweiz, published by Edition Patrick Frey. Siegenthaler’s images pull the viewer directly inside of these once lively spaces through stark, frontal views shot from a central perspective and completely devoid of people.

Letitia Quesenberry lives and works in Louisville, KY. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati. Through the play of material, process, surface, and technology, her work surveys the boundaries of visual perception. Recent exhibitions include Pieter PASD, Los Angeles; Ryan Lee Gallery, New York; Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville; the Speed Art Museum, Louisville, and 21C Museums.
